DVD Review: Shipping Wars – Season One

Who do you call when you have something big to ship? Well, if you knew the personalities of the people who were bidding on your shipment beforehand, probably none of these people! The bidders over on Storage Wars seem like best friends in comparison to this motley crew. Angry, bitter, and hateful, you wonder how these people have been able to make this a career for so long.

Granted, some of the animosity is more than likely a product of the producers, but there does seem to be a level of resentment present here that is rather off-putting at first. I get that this is a competitive business and that the economy has more then likely caused a lot of jobs to disappear, but if this is how these people act around each other and even clients when the cameras are rolling, I can only imagine how they are when there’s no one there to document their behavior.

Shippers Roy Garber, Marc Springer, Jennifer Brennan, Jarrett Joyce, and Suzanne and Scott Bawcom start each episode bidding on several items that need to be shipped that have been submitted with Uship. Once they get the job, it’s up to them to figure out how they will get the job completed for the amount they offered to the client (here, the lowest bid usually wins).

Of course, shipping these items isn’t a walk in the park. In fact, most of the time it’s hell on earth as they discover that loads are bigger than they were told; loads are in a location that is impossible to get to; the animals they are shipping have anger issues; the people helping them all along their route are, in fact, idiots.

Okay, okay, so some of their anger does make sense given what they have to deal with once they arrive on the scene to get the item, while on the road, and once they get to their destinations. And, hey, it doesn’t matter what Jennifer Brennan does as long as she’s in the episode. She’s one sexy shipper!

Shipping Wars may not be everyone’s choice for easygoing entertainment. You may want to yell at these people, and even laugh as they fail. But it’s certainly worth a look!
