Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume Two – Blu-ray Review

Get ready to OD on Looney Tunes! Here come 50 classic animated shorts that have been digitally remastered for the cartoon connoisseur. Classic shorts featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, and Speedy Gonzalez, along with characters you probably have never heard of (who exactly is A. Flea?).

Disc One centers on the known characters and their wacky shenanigans along with several bonus specials. Disc Two explores the Looney Tunes universe through characters that are more obscure in nature (here’s where A. Flea comes in) and series of bonus festures. Disc Three is loaded with special features, documentaries, and classic bonus shorts from the early days of Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes.

A majority of the cartoons also include audio commentary and the option to watch it with just the music and sound effects sans dialogue.

Here’s a quick rundown of the Bonus Content on each disc.

Disc One

Forever Befuddled

A special celebrating Elmer Fudd.

Man from Wackyland: The Art of Bob Clampett

Bosko, Buddy and the Best of Black and White

Leon Schlesinger: The Merrie Cartoon Mogul

Disc Two

Real American Zero: The Adventures of Private Snafu

The Best of the Rest of Tex

The World of Leon Schlesinger

A celebration of the many varied contributions producer Leon Schlesinger made animation-wise at Warner Bros aside from Looney Tunes animation.

Private Snafu

Special shorts designed exclusively for the troops during wartime. They contain adult content, which is pretty cool.

Mr. Hook

A series of cartoons encouraging folks to buy war bonds.

There is so much content here that I wasn’t able to get through all of it before I had to post this review. But from what I’ve seen it doesn’t take a genius to know that this collection is gold…no, wait, it’s Platinum! Lol.

For the ultimate Looney Tunes experience, I highly recommend Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume Two on Blu-ray October 16, 2012! It’s like going to animation Nirvana!
