The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest – DVD Review (Season 1 Vol. 2)

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Volume 2 DVD

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Volume 2 DVD

Volume 2 marks the completed release of the first season of The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. I’d like to point out though that Volume 1 was released in 2009! So I don’t blame you if you didn’t know that Volume 1 ever existed.

There’s an episode called “In the Wake of the Mary Celeste” that kind of describes everything that Volume 2 is about. It’s a story that makes no sense. You’re left with a very open ending and you would think that this was simply part 1 of a 2 part episode. But no they just move on and ignore what happened in the next episode.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Volume 2’s episodes contain a lot of supernatural elements that simply make no sense. It’s hard to connect to the main Quest characters that don’t feel human. They never do anything else beyond going on these goose egg chase adventures. Again that would be fine if the adventures were cool and made sense.

A couple episodes within Volume 2 heavily use the CGI Questworld. Like in Volume 1, Questworld ain’t a pretty sight to see. They actually re-use CG shots that were shown previously in the same episode. They must have ran out of money or production time to create new shots to cut to. The only extra in this collection is “Journey into Questworld.” It’s neat to see the people who worked on the show talk about the element that I think is most memorable from The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. They talk about why Questworld is CG and why the rest of the show is 2D animation.

The best episodes within this collection are the ones that feature Questworld because they show what CGI used to be like back in the day. I just wish that there was some character development sequences within these episodes to make me care about what they’re doing. If you’re the type of person who is fine watching action/adventure cartoons then you might want to check out Volume 2 of The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, but just don’t expect anything more then random action scenarios.
