Bay to Turtles Fans: Chill

“Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”

Director Michael Bay posted the following message to fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on his official fan page:

Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.

Michael”

The post came as a response to Internet fans’ reaction to Bay’s comments during the recent Nickelodeon Upfront, first reported here.

  1. Ever since I heard about this, I’ve been on the same page as most people. The Turtles as aliens?! That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard. But now that I have had time to really gather my thoughts and re-watch the short clip, I think we have all jumped the gun.

Michael Bay says “these Turtles are from an alien race”. He doesn’t say they ARE an alien race. It is now my belief that Michael Bay is stirring up controversy on purpose by choosing his words carefully. I now believe that Michael Bay is hinting towards the Utroms. After all in the Mirage origin it is the Utroms who created the mutagenic agent that caused the Turtles and Splinter to become their mutant forms.

    1. You have a point, however in the posted clip he made no indications of referring to anything other then the Turtles being directly from an alien race and thus aliens as this is the most logical interpretation of his statement.

  2. Let’s be honest – The origin story as told in the 80s cartoon (not sure about the Comics or the recent show) is pretty hokey.  Them being aliens actually makes just as much sense.

Anyway, people need to understand that when something is remade it doesn’t mean that the original disappears! Remakes and reboots CAN be made different.  Hell, they can even be made pretty good, sometimes better, than the originals.
