Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax – Blu-ray Review

He is the Lorax, he speaks for the trees. With its strong message about having respect for the environment, The Lorax is an animated TV special from 1972 that all ages can learn from. It’s a cautionary tale about the dangers of wasteful production, the evils of pollution, and how industry run amuck can have dire and deadly effects on the surrounding environment.

When greed meets green who will come out on top? It is in the Lorax that the environment finds its voice in this special. He is a champion for the disenfranchised masses of animals and plants that find themselves at the mercy of the industrious and money-grubbing Once-ler and his ilk. But when the natural resources are depleted to the point of non-existence who is the real winner and who really loses? It’s clear that when the environment dies so does the industry that killed it.

Eddie Albert (Green Acres) introduces the tale of The Lorax, while the story itself is narrated and voiced by voice actor Bob Holt. It’s a fast-paced story that delivers a powerful moral about respecting the world in which we live and learning to find a way to inhabit the world without endangering the plants and animals around us.

This Deluxe Blu-ray Edition also includes the featurette, The Lorax: The Trees! The Trees! The Voice of the Trees that discusses the story, the importance of trees in our world, and how Dr. Seuss was talking about protecting and preserving the environment long before it was the “in” thing to do. It also has two other Dr. Seuss specials: Pontoffel Pock & His Magic Piano and Butter Battle Book.
