Storage Wars: Volume Two – DVD Review

Yuuuup! Get ready for more intense, action-packed, bidding action with Storage Wars: Volume Two. The battle for storage units leads to high stakes and sometimes higher drama as each man attempts to outbid and outmaneuver the other. Who knew bidding on a stranger’s abandoned stuff could be this exciting?

If you don’t know the series, Storage Wars follows four “teams” who go to storage unit auctions and bid on what they see from outside the unit. They can’t go in or look around before they bid. Once the bidding begins it’s a fast-paced whirlwind of dollar figures that range from the low end to the high-end depending on what they feel the true value of the unit is and what the unit may yield them in the long run.

Then the highest bidder goes through the unit and estimates the value they can glean from each item they find. Sometimes their gamble is a success; other times it’s a huge waste of money and an even greater loss. Either way it makes for a compelling series.

It really is hard to fathom how much money these guys spend for what many times could be considered pure junk. While they do get lucky sometimes, most of the items retrieved from ach unit are barely worthy of donation to Goodwill. But when they do strike it big the amount of money spent seems worth it in the end.

The “teams” from last season return once again and include the over-confident and arrogant Dave Hester; the bickering couple of Jarrod Schulz and Brandi Passante; gamblin’ man Darrell Sheets and his son Brandon; and pun-loving Barry Weiss.

Other than Barry who is mainly a collector, the other guys either run second-hand shops or work the local swap meets with the items they find in order to eventually turn a profit on the items they have recovered.

I have to admit that I had a hard time getting into the series at first. The attitudes of the people involved were pretty off-putting, especially Dave Hester. But I soon realized that the arrogance and posturing was just part of the game these guys play to mess with each other and psych the other people out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

While it’s not as good as Pawn Stars, it’s way better than American Pickers and it’s definitely worth checking out if you are into reality series that don’t involve real housewives, folks from jersey’s shore, or people eating gross stuff for money.

Storage Wars: Volume Two is available February 14, 2012 on DVD!
