Finally the moment movie lovers and film snobs have been waiting for. The official list of nominees for the 84th Academy Awards!
Earlier this morning at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences decreed what was going to be nominated for the 84th Academy Awards This year the prestigious award for Best Picture is up for grabs between nine different films! I thought they might shoot for a lower number but apparently there were nine truly spectacular films this year. Let’s unveil the list

The films up for the Best Picture category range from the obvious choices, The Artist and The Descendants, to a few surprises. The Help was a pleasant surprise as it has been heralded as one of the better films this year, while Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close has been bashed on all fronts by critics and peers alike. What is more surprising than the nominees are those that didn’t get any recognition. Drive was completely shafted on the major awards, and this marks Pixar’s first year in which they have released a film, but was not nominated for the Academy Award. It seems as though these Oscars are going to be quite a treat, and I personally cannot wait to see “Man or Muppet” being performed live for Best Original Song.
