What if you could turn that iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch into a high-class portable audio recording studio?
The iRig Microphone comes with several different ingredients that make for a very useful product. In the package you’ll receive the iRig Mic, mic clamp, and the carrying case pouch. You’ll connect the microphone via its dual- mini-jack into your electronic device. It’s dual so you can also plug in your earphones and hear the audio that the microphone is picking up.
The microphone itself is a unidirectional condenser with 3 levels (loud, medium, low). The manual states which level you should use for certain situations, but if you forget you can always hear the different with your earphones. You’ll know immediately which level is right for the situation.
The one thing that I highly recommend you buy in addition to this iRig Mic is a external windscreen. There is a internal windscreen but it doesn’t prevent medium level gusts of wind from destroying your audio.
Just for the heck of it I tried the iRig Mic on a non-recommended device. I plugged it into my Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 device and it also worked. The audio didn’t seem to have as much of a nice bass level to it when I recorded on the recommended devices, but it was acceptable.
The iRig Mic should work with any audio capturing application. I was able to use it with the built in video camera apps. They also do recommend that you can use the microphone with VocaLive, AmpliTube, and iRig Recorder. These are all free apps that you can download from the iTunes App Store.
At around $50-60 you’re getting a solid package that will allow you to capture voice and instruments at a quality that will make you much more happy than what you’re able to capture from the built in iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad microphone.
