Netgear XAVB5004 Review

Love the internet, but hate your wifi? Then I highly recommend that you introduce your household to the power of Powerline!

Within this box you’ll receive multiple parts but figuring out which part does what and goes where is very easy. If you’ve ever set up a wifi router you know how difficult getting every device to connect to the internet can be. With the Netgear XAVB5004 it’s a breeze.

You plug in both the white sending device and black receiving device to their wall outlets. The sending device needs to be connected to your router via ethernet. The receiving device can be plugged in where ever the internet connected devices are located. Connect the internet devices into your receiving device and then make sure to enable the internet connected device to its wired connection setting.

It’s an extremely simple setup and the manual is very good at displaying how to do it all.

The on LED colored light display shows you roughly how many Mbps you have.

What’s really great about this Netgear XAVB5004 is that you can plug in up to four devices via ethernet. You can then get a splitter and add more devices if you want. This is perfect for either a entertainment media center or computer in another room that is far away from the wireless router.

So far my experience with the Powerline is that it has been way more stable than my wifi. For various reasons my wifi kept dropping out or had low signal throughout my house so having this Netgear XAVB5004 was useful for devices that don’t tend to move from their location while in use.

I can’t say that it made the internet feel faster or slower because it seems to be roughly the same as what it was before. What I do know is that it is far more stable.

I’ve got no complaints about the Netgear XAVB5004. It works like a charm.
