Syfy Digtal Press Tour 2010: Hollywood Treasure

I am not a fan of reality shows. That being said, the new reality show “Hollywood Treasure” looks like the first one that I might actually be interested in. The basic premise of the show follows Joe Maddalena, the world’s largest auctioneer of original movie, television and pop culture collectibles, as he tracks down the most sought-after Hollywood memorabilia.

The panel began with Joe Maddalena speaking about his past experiences with a vast array of memorabilia. One of the most interesting of these included his story about his recent sale of all of the assets from the “Lost” series. He mentioned that it was the largest auction he has ever conducted and how the price of the assets usually depends on the dedication of the fans of the series.

Maddalena then went on to give an example of a situation that occurs in one of the episodes. He talked about an individual that claimed they were in possession of the original Mary Poppins Bag. Maddalena decided to go visit the individual and see if they could figure out if it was the original bag. After doing several tests and hearing a rather interesting story of how they received the bag, Maddalena confirmed that it was the real one and ended up auctioning for it a large sum of money.

This is just one example of an item that the host tracks down throughout the show. After explaining one of the episodes, Maddalena brought out some of the auction items that he has accrued over the years for us to look at. Being that I am a huge fan of films, it was extremely exciting to be able to see one of the golden tickets from “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”, the almanac from “Back to the Future”, one of the costumes that Damien wore in “The Omen” and one of the original “Superman” comics.

If throughout the season Maddalena continues to track down objects from some of the most famous films, I can see it becoming a very interesting and fun show. The show debutsedon the Syfy Channel on Wednesday, October 22nd with two back-to-back half hour episodes at 10:00 pm ET and 10:30 pm ET.

  1. I was just catching up with Hollywood Treasure when I have time on my breaks. It’s one of the things I really enjoy about being an employee/subscriber of DISH Network. DISH has the TV everywhere service that allows me to stream all my programming (both live and DVR’d) to my iPad (or a variety of other mobile devices too) anywhere I go. It’s a wonderful convenience that my last TV provider (U-Verse) didn’t have.
