Nip/Tuck: The Complete Series – DVD Review

“Tell me what you don’t like about yourself?” Nip/Tuck is a compelling, riveting, and oftentimes graphic drama that aired on FX for six seasons. The series revolves around a team of plastic surgeons in Miami (and later Los Angeles) who deal with a wide variety of plastic surgery cases each episode along with their own personal issues.

I had never seen Nip/Tuck until I reviewed the complete series box set on DVD, and I can honestly say that after the first season I was hooked. There’s a reason why cable channels like FX and AMC have the best-written, edgiest, and thoroughly engrossing shows on TV. Nip/Tuck is a perfect example of all three.

While the storylines are intense, the characters intriguing, and the subject matter is unique for a series, Nip/Tuck is NOT for the squeamish. The series depicts almost true-to-life plastic surgery procedures that are very graphic and bloody in nature. As a fan of horror movies and slasher flicks I had a hard time watching many of the sequences without feeling a bit nauseous.

Again, not a warning against the series by any means. But if you’re not a fan of graphic and gory medical procedures you may want to look away during these parts.

Even in the first few episodes the characters have grown on me. This is a great series to get addicted to, especially since you don’t have to wait for the next episode or season; it’s all set and ready for you from start to finish.

Each season contains some great special features and are as varied and as interesting as the series itself. Here they are in season order (because doing it out of order seemed pointless):

Season One

Giving Drama and Facelift, Realistic Expectations: The Practice of Plastic Surgery, and Are They Real of Fake?: The Miraculous Effects of Nip/Tuck featurettes; Severed Parts Gag Reel; Cutting Room Floor Deleted Scenes; and A Perfect Lie Music Video.
————-

Season Two

Recurring Pain: Three Women and Their Man; and Cutting Room Floor Deleted Scenes.

Nip/Tuck is an excellent series. I’m excited to finish the rest of the seasons and get to the 100th episodes series finale. I highly recommend this controversial and highly-praised drama. It’s a definite must watch!
