Surviving the Holidays with Lewis Black – DVD Review

Well, Halloween is almost here and gone and now it’s time to finish that candy and get ready for the next two huge holidays in the United States. Yep, that’s right, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, and what better way to gear up for the oncoming onslaught of food, relatives, flights, and presents than with the acerbic wit of Lewis Black.

In this very funny special, Surviving the Holidays, Lewis Black and other comics riff on their favorite memories, humorous moments, and crazy events that have taken place around the final two holidays of the year.

The special also delves into the history behind each holiday, where certain traditions evolve from, and tips are provided to help alleviate holiday stress. The special also explores Chanukah and Kwanzaa, along with the history of the real Saint Nicholas. Of course, the healthy dose of laughs throughout the special help as well.

Look for Bob Saget, Larry Miller, Loni Love, Joy Behar, Craig Ferguson, David Alan Grier, Richard Belzer, and a host of other comics as they provide insight into what are considered the two biggest stress-filled holidays of the year.

Lewis Black is very funny and provides his classic brand of humor, wit, and cynicism to the commentary throughout the special. His interviews with experts, historians, and fellow comics are fun to watch, and there are moments where you can tell he wants to blurt out a comment or say something funny but holds back.

I really enjoyed Surviving the Holidays. I was informed, educated, and entertained, and I always enjoy a good Lewis Black rant about anything. If you’re looking for a primer to get you ready for the upcoming holiday season, check out Surviving the Holidays with Lewis Black. It’s a lot of fun.
