Hollywood Treasure – Series Premiere Review

This show is a lot of fun! As a huge movie and TV fan I have always wanted to own props, costumes, and other items from many of my favorite series. The new SyFy show, Hollywood Treasure delves into the world of movie and TV memorabilia and gives us an inside look at how these items are acquired.

Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History, is very passionate about film and TV memorabilia. And I mean VERY passionate. He has made a career out of tracking down, appraising, acquiring, and auctioning off some of Hollywood’s most prized and iconic items. The series follows Joe as he and his team find these items and bring them to auction for bidders around the globe.

What makes this show different from a series like American Pickers is that Joe and his team actually care about the items they find. Not only are they excited when they acquire items like the carpet bag from Mary Poppins, or the hat worn by the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz, but the person handing over the item benefits financially from the auction. And I think that’s really cool!

Hollywood Treasure takes us all over the place in search of rare items that have been hidden in attics, basements, and garages for decades. Some are in perfect condition, others not so much. But the excitement and joy that each new discovery provides Joe and his team translates through the TV screen in a big way.

Plus the series is a lot of fun. For a TV and movie fan like me, it’s cool to see these items and find out where they’ve been and how much they are worth to hardcore collectors. And since I had the opportunity to meet Joe and explore the myriad items sold at his Lost auction, I know firsthand how exciting and energizing being in the room with these items can be. What a rush!

If you’re a fan or movie and TV memorabilia, are interested in becoming a collector, or are just a fan of cinema history, then Hollywood Treasure is definitely worth checking out. I really enjoyed it and I’m sure you will too!

Hollywood Treasure premieres Wednesday, October 27 with back-to-back eps at 10pm ET/PT ONLY on SyFy!
