UK Defence Secretary Wants Medal of Honor Banned

While it doesn’t sound very serious right now, EA is holding their ground about this.

The upcoming 2010 Medal of Honor may be in jeopardy for its release later this year, as UK Defence Secretary Liam Fox urged shops across the UK to not stock the game, because it lets you play as Taliban soldiers and kill British troops. He also said that he was ‘disgusted’ that the game allowed something like this to happen (a war game letting players kill people? Horrible!)

You’d think that this is a controversy like Modern Warfare 2’s infamous ‘No Russian’ level, but it gets worse – Liam Fox is actually blasting the game’s multiplayer for letting you play as a Talibani soldier and kill coalition troops. Mr. Fox should be informed that while you can choose which team you want in the game, it will only lead to British players being labelled pricks who don’t understand how to level a team.

EA responds to the issue by saying “The format of the new Medal of Honour game merely reflects the fact that every conflict has two sides. We give gamers the opportunity to play both sides. Most of us have been doing this since we were seven: someone plays the cop, someone must be robber. In Medal of Honour multiplayer, someone’s got to be the Taliban.”

Hell, the Russians have been the enemy in the last two Modern Warfare games for no logical reason and instead of them bawwing over how the game lets you kill Russians, they do the exact opposite – they choose the Spetsnaz in every match and kick other people’s asses.

  1. Think this is something people have been waiting for, for ages but no one really dared to do.
'Good guy' us/coallition/allies/etc. vs 'bad guys' taliban/terroris/soviet/etc is an old senario and overused. Only reason i enjoyed the MW games single player modes was because they added a twist to those scenarios.

The fact that this is not some generic the west is the best game i might even buy it.
