This is one kick-ass ride! The Expendables delivers so much action, violence, and mayhem that you’ll want to see it again just for the rush of excitement it delivers. I know I do. Any fan of action movies should see The Expendables. It’s a throwback to the action films of the 80s and 90s, but also delivers 21st century kick in the balls that many action movies of late have been missing.
Stallone, Statham, and Li lead a cast of WWE stars and others in a no-holds-barred movie that packs plenty of firepower. But, wait, there’s more! Yep, Stallone was able to convince two of the biggest action heroes of the last two decades to make cameo appearances: Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Their screen time is brief but it leaves a lasting impression and just goes to show how much we’ve missed Arnold the actor.
Anyone who sees this movie knows exactly what to expect. This isn’t a touchy-feely film, it’s not a think piece, and sure as hell isn’t a chick flick. This is a guy’s movie, plain and simple. Loaded with fistfights, car chases, gun fights, explosions and more, The Expendables is a refreshing change and a return to the over-the-top action flicks of decades past. Well done, Mr. Stallone.
Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts deliver great performances, and it’s amusing to see Dolph Lundgren and Stallone on screen together after all these years (they were in Rocky IV together, just so you know).
With The Expendables opening at #1, I’m sure a sequel may be in the works. I would love to see Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pop up in the next one. I also think that Stallone’s character and Schwarzenegger could team up in the sequel as well. Hell, Arnold won’t be governor of California by then.
You get what you pay for with The Expendables. The audience cheered, applauded, and had a great time. It’s the best action film I’ve seen in a long time and is definitely worth seeing.
