Strange New World

Apparently even if Gene Roddenberry created the concept for this pilot, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be good. Strange New World is the third attempt by a production company to bring Roddenberry’s concept of an end of the world story to television. As this is meant for TV, this pilot does not have a conclusive ending. Therefore even if you do get attached to it, the video will end and you won’t be getting anymore anytime soon.

I don’t know what exactly you’d like from this pilot though. After the opening segment concludes, the pilot becomes a snooze fest. It feels very outdated. The story itself is simply dull. According to Wikipedia the two prior efforts of Planet Earth and Genesis II are better than a Strange New World so if you want to see this story, try and watch those videos instead.

Probably one of the funniest segments in this pilot is that the transportation vehicle that the crew uses at the beginning of the video is about the same height as an average Honda Civic. The next shot is the interior cockpit of that vehicle. Somehow the actress is able to stand fully erect with plenty of head room. I dare say that this pilot is cheep and cheesy because that usually infers that it’s fun to watch. This is not fun to watch.

This video is only available on DVD from the Warner Brothers Archive Collection. Click here to buy it.
