New Treyarch Developed Call of Duty game announced.

It’s an even year, and Infinity Ward is falling apart at the seams, so that means it’s Treyarch’s turn to cash in on the Call of Duty franchise for Activision. Rumors of the inevitable mid-year Call of Duty game have been around since before the release of Modern Warfare 2. Many of them leaned towards a more modern sequel or staging in Vietnam. Earlier today the site for the new game was put up before the trailer revealing the name of the game but little else.

The new Call of Duty game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops, which seems to purposely avoid any mention of war, as does the trailer that was just released on Gametrailers. The trailer itself is a tad confusing visually. A calm setting of a dark hospital, then explosions, then hospital, then explosions. There’s not much gleaned from the video but that the setting will likely be in mixed company. There are scenes that look like something from Modern Warfare and then some that look like Vietnam.

Frankly the video is typical of what I’ve come to expect from the developer. A quality of game that tries to emulate what Infinity Ward does but fails in doing so. The trailer is too hectic and uses explosions to get the stoners and frat boys excited for more mediocrity amidst the lawsuits, and slow osmosis of employees from Infinity Ward to the newly established Respawn Entertainment.

But hey, this is just a teaser. A bad one, but still a teaser nonetheless. Can’t say I’m the least bit excited, but I am curious, and that is something. At least we know one thing, the game is coming out November 9th 2010.
