20th Century Fox is rumored to be finally revisiting the Independence Day universe.
IESB reports from a “reliable source” that Will Smith is locked in to star in two sequels to the 1996 film. The movies will shoot simultaneously much like The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. Production could begin sometime in 2011. There’s no word on the story yet, but knowing director Roland Emmerich (who will reportedly return to helm the sequels), it will involve CGI effects destroying famous landmarks in increasingly elaborate ways.
