Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Trailer out

I really don’t know how I missed this. The trailer for the movie adaptation of the comic book series Scott Pilgrim came out. I’ve mentioned Scott Pilgrim before when the Ubisoft developed game was announced last year, but really this is far more exciting because… well there are so many ways you can mess up a game adaptation of anything.

The reason why this movie adaptation is so significant is that it’s got a good director behind it. Like Kick Ass, which was directed by Matthew Vaughn who directed Layer Cake and produced many of Guy Ritchie’s film, Scott Pilgrim has an incredibly talented director who works well for the film. That director is Edgar Wright of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame.

The movie’s focus is a simple romantic comedy plot with some twists that seem strange but work really well in a comic. Guy falls in love with girl, they date. Guy meets the girl’s exes, they don’t like him, he fights all seven of her evil exes in various to the death battles that include massive hammers, flaming katanas, and all the powers that come with being a vegan.

The trailer looks awesome. It has a great sense of humor, I’d imagine in large part due to Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O’Malley’s series on which the movie is based on. The direction is great, it fits the insane comicy actions scenes without damaging the integrity of what they were to fit your normal romantic comedy. There’s some camp, but with a source material about a boy who meets a girl because she uses his dreams as a wormhole to make deliveries for Amazon it’s kind of hard to avoid the camp.

I suggest watching the trailer, repeatedly. If it strikes you as something interesting then grab the graphic novels. The series is going to ending in July, right before the movie comes out, and it’s superb.
