More Stars Join ‘Smurfs’ Movie

Hank Azaria and Katy Perry will lend their vocal talents to the upcoming film.

Azaria, the man who voices seemingly half of the characters in The Simpsons, will portray the villainous sorcerer Gargamel.  Meanwhile Perry will voice Smurfette, the only female in the predominantly male, towel-snapping Naval barracks that is Smurf Village.

The film, which is set to begin production next month, will be a live-action/animation hybrid akin to the fondly remembered Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (and the understandably forgotten The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle).  The story centers around a couple (played by Neil Patrick Harris and Glee‘s Jayma Mays) discovering the Smurfs in New York’s Central Park.
