Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief – DS Review

Normally when a DS game is made, based on a movie, it’s terrible. In essence it’s usually a copy of a copy of a copy. It’s just not as good at the original. Considering the film Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief wasn’t that good, what can we expect with a DS game?

The game plays like a turn based RPG, but is limited on its plot. The focus is on the fights, and a very basic map system. This causes the game to feel like it’s a mini-game of some other potentially larger and better game.

Thankfully though, the gameplay is actually not that bad. It’s a bit basic for an RPG, but I think it helps this game. And they have a couple of mini-games (very miniature) for critical hits where the player needs to make stylus strokes on the touch screen.

So should you buy this game? The game is fun, and when it hits the $5 we-don’t-want-this-anymore bin, yes, buy it, you’ll have fun and you won’t get frustrated. However you’ll be done quickly, and might feel gypped with its simplicity.
