Forgotten History 101: Lincoln vs. Vampires

A new film proves that Abraham Lincoln was the original Buffy.

Directors Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) will again join forces to produce a film adaptation of the recently released novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  Although both directors are old hands at the horror genre, neither are currently slated to direct.  The pair previously worked together on last year’s animated film, 9.

The novel’s author, Seth Grahame-Smith (who will also write the screenplay) previously integrated horror into the 19th century with his 2009 book, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  According to the entry on Grand Central Publishing‘s web site, the new book’s story is set in motion after a nine-year-old Lincoln learns that his mother’s death was caused by vampires.  The description further states, “Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.”

It’s rare to find a film that both history buffs and gore hounds can equally enjoy.  Who knows?  In a few years Abraham Lincoln:  Vampire Hunter may be taught in schools across the country.  Once they settle that pesky evolution debate that is.
