Déjà Vu: Scorsese Hints at Cinematic Reunion with De Niro

Proving that successful collaborations never die, Reuters reports that director Martin Scorsese is in talks with Robert De Niro about re-teaming for another take on the gangster genre.

Scorsese’s comments came last Saturday at the premiere of his recent film Shutter Island at the Berlin Film Festival.  Scorsese divulged scant details about the future project, merely saying, “It’s from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff.”  Does this mean On Golden Pond meets Goodfellas?  Let the fan speculation begin!

If a project comes to fruition it would be the first time the director and star have worked together since Casino in 1995.  A successful gangster drama would be a change of pace for De Niro’s post-Casino career trajectory, in which he has found greater success with comedic films like Meet the Parents and Analyze This while his darker movies like Righteous Kill (which was only slightly more popular than cholera) met with tepid responses.
