I’m hooked! Glee is one of the most entertaining and amusing TV shows I have seen in a long time. It’s funny, entertaining, inspiring, and unique, and I got all of that from the pilot episode. Glee is supercharged with great characters, amazing performances, and musical moments that are sure to make you sing in the shower.
It’s a distinctive and fresh concept for a series, one I have never seen before. A lot of series have explored the inner-workings of high school life, but most have either fixated on the drama among a small group (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), or on the football team (Friday Night Lights).
Glee focuses on the underdogs (yes, I know, Freaks and Geeks did too). But these underdogs have a dream. As members of the glee club at William McKinley High School, this mismatched group of students have their sights set on the sectional glee club championship. Will they succeed in their goal and achieve their dream?
At the center of the Glee universe is Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), who struggles at first to find support and students who don’t feel the glee club is either a waste of time or a cesspool populated by losers and rejects. What happens next is what could be called TV magic.
Glee is solid entertainment that has the comic edginess FOX audiences want, but also delivers on a more dramatic level, which allows the stories to dig deeper into the desires and hopes of its central characters. And trust me, after the first episode you’ll want to watch more.
One of my favorite actresses, Jane Lynch, stars in the series as well. Lynch has had roles in The 40-Year Old Virgin, Julie & Julia, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Two and a Half Men. As always, her acerbic delivery is solid and hilarious as the cheer coach at McKinley.

Glee is highly entertaining, addictive, and a lot of fun. If you haven’t watched it on FOX, check out the first 13 eps on DVD. It’s definitely worth watching!
