Do you hate Blu-ray bundles that contain 3 discs while one of them is for a digital download copy, another is a DVD, and then only one of the discs is actually Blu-ray?
Universal Studios Home Entertainment is going to be introducing a new dual-format disc that contains Blu-ray and DVD. You literally flip the disc to choose between the Blu-ray version or DVD version. You’ll still see special features on these discs as well.
These ‘flipper’ discs are premiering on store shelves on January 19, 2010 with the release of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.
As long as you could clearly identify which side is which version, it seems like this will definitely help cut down on all the Blu-ray disc combo clutter. Though I gotta say that I still hate laser-discs and DVDs that have this dual sided encoding. You’d always have to worry about smudging both sides of the disc. Argh!
That’s why I don’t like duel sided discs too. Plus, when these only one side, publishers can always put a snazzy image on the non-reading side.
