Disney/Pixar’s Up – Blu-ray/DVD Review

Up

Up is an amazing movie of a variety of thematic levels. It definitely is a rare species of animated film that explores adult-oriented issues of loss, death, and grief. But aside from these heavy thematic elements there’s a lot of cartoonish fun and adventure to be had throughout the film, and there’s a lot of laughs as well.

Ed Asner stars as the cranky Carl Fredricksen, a man who decides to go on one last adventure to fulfill his late wife’s dream of going to the mysterious Paradise Falls. As he makes his escape from civilization, he discovers he’s not alone; a determined Wilderness Explorer, Russell accidentally lifts off with him.

Now, the two are on a quest to get to Paradise Falls, but soon they both discover that their initial quest will be more of an adventure than they bargained for.

I have nothing but high praise and applause for this film. It’s a tall order these days to find an animated movie that isn’t loaded with pop culture references, sexual innuendos, and bad puns. Up has heart, and it also delivers a great story and characters that children and adults will enjoy. Up is another excellent film from the gang over at Pixar.

Now, if they’d only make The Incredibles 2!
