Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – DVD Review

IceAge

Your favorite gang of Ice Age-era mammals return in Ice Age 3! At this point in the series, things are starting to feel a bit tired, but that’s to be expected. Like Shrek the Third, things are starting to feel a little repetitive. What I really liked about the film is the amazing animation and the action sequences are also well done.

In this third installment, ever naïve sloth Sid (Leguizamo) comes across three dinosaur eggs, which hatch and he takes on the role of being their parent. As Sid wanders off with his newfound family, the other Ice Age mammals go on a quest to find him. Along the way, they discover a whole world under the ice where dinosaurs still exist!

With the help of a wily weasel named Buck (Simon Pegg), the team do whatever it takes to find Sid and return he and the rest of the clan to the world of the Ice Age. Oh, and did I mention that Manny’s (Romano) wife Ellie (Queen Latifah) is pregnant and on the verge of giving birth? And lest we forger everyone’s favorite squirrel, Scrat, as he searches once again for the elusive acorn and finds love along the way.

The special features are rather bleak, and I was surprised they were spread out over two DVDs. They include:

DVD #1

Filmmaker’s Commentary

DVD #2

Three kid-friendly computer games. They are:

Bubble Trouble

Choose to be Scrat of Scratte and float your way to the top of the cave as you collect acorns along the way.

Scrat Pinball

Like classic pinball, only you collect acorns too.

The Egg Shell Game

Find the acorn under one of the three egg shells after they get mixed up!

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a lot of fun. It has the feel of being familiar, but sometimes that’s not really a bad thing.
