Tyler Bates, the man responsible for the scores of 300 and Watchmen, is dishing out his talents to Army of Two: The 40th Day. 40th Day is a sequel to the fist Army of Two, Army of Two and features the duo of Salem and Rios fighting against an organization terrorizing an eastern nation. The release date for the game is estimated to be January 2010.
Now the news regarding a Hollywood composer becoming involved with a video game is second only to Hans Zimmer who has lent his talents to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves also extended its reaches into the Hollywood setting as the sound design and music score was composed at none other than Skywalker Ranch. One has to wonder if this will be a continuing trend with composers as original movies seem to be in short supply. With Hollywood grasping for original works the video game industry is at the peak of its creative works with new systems allowing for more developed games.
Another likelihood is that games are finally getting the nod as a form of legitimate artistic expression and worthwhile media entertainment from Hollywood, and maybe even the media. Games have been targeted, being the new kid in town, as the increase in popular demand for them has increased. More scrutiny has been passed upon them much like film received when it became more popular. This could be a signal of a shift in popular entertainment and where the future of reaching the mass audience lies.
