Halo 3 ODST – Xbox 360 Review

Halo 3 ODST

The Halo 3 expansion pack is here and we’ve got the review. Wait, no this is more than just an expansion pack.

Please watch our video review below for our in-depth take on the game:

There are essentially four features that you might inquire about so here’s a quick rundown:

First the single player campaign is short. It tries to be emotionally driven, but there’s a lack of a connection to its characters.

The Firefight mode is a nice addition, but lacks a fundamental mode: matchmaking. You can only play with friends locally or online. So you really won’t be playing this gameplay mode for as long as you think.

Included on the second disk is all the multiplayer maps from Halo 3 including the downloadable content. You can play online against hundreds of thousands of Halo 3 owners.

Additionally there is a Beta key code for Halo: Reach. Obviously we can’t say if this code is worth it as we haven’t played Halo: Reach.

  1. Halo ODST accomplished what it was set out to be. A quick, action packed expansion to Halo 3.

The Campaign was fun, and had moments of pure joy that reminded me a lot of the good old days in Halo: Combat Evolved. The new Silenced Pistol alone was worth the wait for this expansion.

And I can understand people’s frustration with Firefight not having Matchmaking, but I can also understand why it wasn’t included.

With Halo’s multiplayer being essentially a quick match every few minutes, Bungie might have intuitively decided that Halo’s core demographic might not have the patience to play a few hours on a single map with a complete stranger before chaos erupted, or someone quits the Firefight out of disgust.

Can you honestly say that you’d rather in Firefight with some random moron who gets off on t-bagging your corpse after he kills you? I’d like it if that moron went out and played in Firefight with other morons that he met while being a moron in social slayer.
