WB Archive Collection: The Our Gang Collection – DVD Review

OurGangDVD

Klassic Kiddie Komedy starts with the Our Gang Comedies! The Warner Bros. Archive Collection presents this 5-DVD set that contains 52 hilarious shorts from those spunky, wacky, and wild kids that captured the hearts and imaginations of kids and adults for decades on both the big and small screen.

The Our Gang Comedies (also known as The Little Rascals) were presented as shorts before feature films back in the 1930s and 40s. Much like Laurel & Hardy and the Three Stooges, the Our Gang Comedies were full of slapstick, wacky antics, and plenty of mayhem. There’s plenty of laughs and fun to be had with this collection.

This particular collection showcases only a brief period in the Our Gang history. The series began in the silent era of film back in 1922 and would continue until 1944. While the cast and characters changed due to actors growing up, the spirit of the series remained the same.

Some would debate that the best films of the series include Alfalfa, Darla, Spanky, Buckwheat, Porky, and Pete the Pup. Luckily these characters are part of this DVD set.

For those who want to learn more about the Our Gang Comedies or The Little Rascals, the history of the actors and the alleged “curse” surrounding the series is definitely worth a look. It’s interesting to note that child actors have had major issues as they transitioned to adulthood even in the early days of cinema. It’s sad to see that not much has changed.

So grab your soap box racer, climb into your “Boys Only” tree house, and join Alfalfa, Darla, Buckwheat, Spanky, and the rest with this excellent collection of film from the Our Gang Comedies.
