Everyone’s favorite mutant superheroes are back and ready for action! Volumes 3 & 4 of X-Men: The Animated Series deliver plenty of excitement, thrills, and comedic interplay between the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, The Beast, Rogue, and Storm. As they go about their mutant lives doing mutant things, they must contend with the evil Magneto and host of other villainous scoundrels out to ruin their happy mutant existences.
And yes, I know that the villains are mutants as well.
Volume 3 contains 15 episodes, which includes the four-part “Dark Phoenix” saga (perhaps it has something to do with Jean Grey?). Volume 4 includes 14 eps, with the four-part “Beyond Good and Evil” story arc. There’s plenty to watch and enjoy in both DVD sets.
Sadly, however, there are no special features included. I would have liked to have seen a mini-comic book included, or commentary during the 4-part eps, or even a short featurette featuring Stan Lee. The absence of these extras doesn’t diminish the series at all, but it would have been a nice thing for hardcore comic book fans.
If you’re hankering for some X-Men action, then X-Men: The Animated Series is just what Professor X would prescribe (if he was a doctor and not just a professor). Fun, awesome, mutants!
