The world of the sleuth can be a difficult one. Always on one’s guard; always suspecting; forever deducing. And in the end what results is the solving of a crime that would confound even the most brilliant detectives. Thankfully, with the skills of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple to aid in the mystery, things always seem to tie up quite nicely.
This is more than a collection; it’s an anthology. Twenty-one films are included in this 17 DVD set, with both Marple and Poirot at their finest. Author Agatha Christie’s characters both amaze and mesmerize with their determination, cleverness, and wit. Each whodunit leaves you guessing until the moment of summation.
These are full-length films, and provide close to forty hours of mystery-solving enjoyment. But it would be wise to pace oneself and not overload on these films in one sitting. It’s best to dole them out and savor each one. And there are plenty of go around.
The anthology contains 12 Poirot mysteries and 9 for Miss Marple. Can you figure out who did what to whom and when before these legends do?
I only have one issue with this amazing set: the bonus features. This being from A&E I was hoping that the Agatha Christie Biography would be an episode of A&E’s Biography discussing her life and work. Sadly, it’s just two blocks of text with her photo beside them. This is also the same for David Suchet’s Biography and Joan Hickson’s Biography as well as Miss Marple’s.
Along with these, you do get listings of all the stories Agatha Christie wrote that feature Poirot and Marple. They are worth looking up and reading on a rainy afternoon.
Of course, if you wish to forgo reading, your next best bet is to watch these classic mysteries in all their glory. So sit back, relax, and prepare to dazzled by the keen sleuthing skills of Hercule Porirot and Miss Marple. You’ll be glad you took the time to watch.
