Ridley Scott Making Brave New World Adaptation

Leonardo DiCaprio just may be involved in the movie, too.

I’m sure what I can make of this news. Ridley Scott, the awesome, awesome man that brought us the likes of Blade Runner or Alien is doing an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s dystopian/utopian classic, Brave New World.

The question I’m asking is, can you really make a movie on Brave New World, the book? The book had the most unfilmable story I’ve seen in any dystopian novel yet. I reckon Scott would have to take his own spin on the movie, because I’m really not sure how much I want to see a movie with all the characters of the original film, translated to screen as described in the book.

Leonardo DiCaprio is supposed to be producing the movie, and rumour has it that may be star as well. Screenplay will be written by Farhad Safinia, who’s only previous work as been Apocalypto. Not sure what to make of that, but I think that with Ridley Scott on board, the other names are really going to be overshadowed.

Regardless, this is definitely big news and worth being excited about. If Scott can make this anywhere near as great as Blade Runner, this could really be a very powerful film. We’ll just have to wait and see. Oh, and I don’t think it much of a stretch to guess that this movie won’t be coming below NC-17.
