What next? A real M16 in a collector’s edition?

These special editions are just getting crazier and crazier. First it was Modern Warfare 2’s Prestige Edition, and now we have this. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, developed and to be published by Codemasters will be getting a Collector’s Edition and it apparently includes a real helmet and a voucher for a personalised dog-tag. Seriously, what?

Unlike Modern Warfare 2, however, the Collector’s Edition will be a PC-exclusive. We also don’t know if it will be available in English-speaking countries, since the source of this news is a moderator posting on the official German boards of the game. It also includes a line that Google cryptically translates “In this game the helmet is attached to a used copy, which is the usual wear and damage, in both size and composition can vary and is intended for decorative purposes!”

I think the best we can visualise from that is that the helmet is a copy and won’t actually save your small, insignificant brain when China invades. Does anyone even actually buy these insanely-priced, insanely-packaged special editions? If you do, then brush up your German and head over to Amazon Germany.
