The Haunting in Connecticut – DVD Review

HauntingDVD

What’s the crap spewing from that kid’s mouth? Is it a tree? Is he on a roller coaster after a big meal? No, silly. It’s ectoplasm. Duh. What’s it have to do with this particular flick, The Haunting in Connecticut? Watch and find out.

Virginia Madsen (Sideways) stars in this paranormal thriller based on the true story about a haunted house in Connecticut. When the Campbell family moves into a house closer to their oldest son’s cancer treatments, they soon discover that the home was once a mortuary and the past inhabitants may still be lurking in the house. Will they survive the onslaught of evil that plagues their home?

Unlike typical Lionsgate fare, this thriller relies more on story and character than blood and gore. Their past and current offerings like the Saw and Hostel series and My Bloody Valentine don’t require thought from their viewers. The Haunting in Connecticut makes you think.

What? A horror movie that makes you think? Whatever about? Since it is based on true events, it makes you wonder what really did happen in that house. What did they see and experience. Were these apparitions and other phenomena just chemical-induced hallucinations brought on by Matt Campbell’s cancer drugs? What really did take place in this house in the past? What atrocities against the dead were committed? Against the living?

While films about hauntings and spirits abound from The Sixth Sense to An American Haunting and a multitude of others, is it possible that ghosts really do exist? Or is everyone who has supposedly had a sighting just goofy in the head?

I posit these questions only to further the dialogue about the possibilities inherent in such fact-based narratives on the subject.
