The Curious Case of Benjamin Button joins a long list of films that have been stamped with the Criterion Collection label. These classic and contemporary films range from silent movies to the Bruce Willis flick Armageddon (still not sure exactly why this is Criterion).

With this two-disc set, which is also “Director Approved” by David Fincher, you not only get the 165 minute feature film, but also a three hour documentary on the making of this film titled The Curious Birth of Benjamin Button. The documentary is broken up into sections so you can move easily through the pre-production, production, and post-production segments of the documentary.

Along with the three hour doc, you also get audio commentary by director David Fincher, a Stills Gallery, and three theatrical trailers for the film.

You also get an essay about the film by film critic Kent Jones, which explores the career of director David Fincher and the film’s themes as well. It can be found in the small booklet that accompanies the DVD.

What’s this movie about? It’s about a man, Benjamin Button, who ages backwards. It’s based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and won three Oscars for Art Direction, Make-up, and Visual Effects.

The film is available as both a Criterion and regular DVD, which gives you the option of spending a bit more for all the extras, or if you prefer to just own the film you can as well.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an epic film that once again shows Brad Pitt’s range as an actor.

  1. This was definitely one of those must see movies. The story was amazing and all the characters played their parts perfectly. I also really enjoyed the costumes and how the time periods were very believable. I know movies because I have been watching movies since I was a little kid and now that I work at Dish Network I find myself watching a lot of movies in HD on the EPIX channel. For those who haven’t seen this movie and arent sure if you want to buy it yet. Watch it in HD on EPIX to see if you’ll like it.
