The Cleveland Show – TV Series Preview

As a fan of Family Guy and American Dad, I am quite excited about Seth MacFarlane’s newest series, The Cleveland Show, which premieres this Fall on FOX.

A spin-off of Family Guy, The Cleveland Show uproots title character Cleveland Brown from Quahog, and takes him back to his hometown. Whole there, he rekindles a relationship with his long-lost love and the two move in together along with their kids (the rarely seen Cleveland Jr. resurfaces once again).

Cleveland’s neighbors go from being the Griffins, Swanson, and Quagmire, to a couple of talking bears and some rednecks.

Many people have asked: Why did Cleveland get his own show? Why not Joe? Why not Quagmire? Or, what most people thought when a Family Guy spin-off was announced, Brian and Stewie? The reasoning was explained by Family Guy creator MacFarlane who said in an interview that they wanted to use a character that could learn a lesson by the end of each episode. Cleveland was that character.

Still, a Brian and Stewie show would have been fun to see.

The Cleveland Show has been given a 22 episode first season, which is more than Family Guy and American Dad get in a standard season (they usually get 12-13 episodes each). The series will replace outgoing King of the Hill in its 8:30-9:00pm spot on Sundays and be the lead-in for Family Guy.

From what I’ve heard, this looks to be another success for Fox and its “Animation Domination” Sundays.

  1. Family guy needed to evolve; Cleveland getting his own show was a good idea. I’ve been a fan since the pilot episode first aired. Now that I have Sling technology with DISH Network, I never miss any of his shows. I live a very busy life and I use my iPhone to see his shows while on my lunch break at work. Being that I am an employee and customer of DISH I can’t recommend the TV Everywhere feature enough to anyone with a busy lifestyle, thanks DISH!
