When it comes to Two and a Half Men, there are two types of people: those who love it, and those who hate it. Well, love it or hate it, Two and a Half Men is one of the top TV series on the air today. It’s the highest-rated sitcom on CBS, and has earned over 23 Emmy nominations over the past six seasons.

Now entering its seventh year this fall, the show continues to push the envelope on what can be said and done on network TV. This fact has earned it the title: “Worst On Broadcast TV” from the Parents Television Council on several occasions (click their name for a related article). This makes the show worth watching all the more.

The fifth season kicks off with Jake (Angus T. Jones) entering junior high, and Charlie (Charlie Sheen) and Alan (Jon Cryer) doing their best to help him cope with the inevitable doom facing him once he gets to school. It’s a great way to start things off, and creates a momentum that continues throughout the rest of the season.

I had the pleasure of being in the studio audience for three of the episodes this season: “Help Daddy Find His Toenail,” “Meander to Your Dander,” and “The Soil Is Moist.” If you’ve never been to a taping of a sitcom like Two and Half Men, I highly recommend it. Seeing the way a series is put together live is truly a fun and unique experience. Plus, you get to see the actors try out many different lines, and you might even hear your laughs on TV!

This was a landmark season for Two and a Half Men for two special reasons: They made it to their 100th episode, and the Two and Half Men and CSI writing staffs switched shows. The ep “Fish in a Drawer” was written by CSI writers Carol Mendelsohn & Naren Shakar, while the CSI episode, “Two and half Deaths” was written by Men writers Chuck Lorre & Lee Aronsohn. It’s kind of cool that this type of creative switceroo took place, and it’s the only time in TV history that writing staffs have switched series.
