I’ve never been a fan of Adam Sandler’s movies. So I was surprised to find myself actually enjoying his latest movies from Disney, Bedtime Stories. While the premise and idea behind the whole film is rather silly, this is a movie that is safe for families to watch together. Even with a number of fart and booger jokes, the overall comedic scope is clean and safe.
Boasting a wide range of acting talent, the film stars Adam Sandler, Courtney Cox Arquette (Friends, the Scream trilogy), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential, Momento), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), Keri Russell (Felicity, August Rush), Richard Griffiths (Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell of Fear, Sleepy Hollow), Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Jonathan Pryce (Tomorrow Never Dies), and Rob Schneider (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Hot Chick).
It’s a high-energy movie that has pretty decent special effects and you can tell the actors had a fun time acting goofy in front of the camera. Directed by Adam Shankman (Bringing Down the House, Hairspray), Bedtime Stories has both an edge and a heart.

Bedtime Stories dreams up a B+. I think they could have gone farther with the concept. I guess we’ll see if Eddie Murphy’s new movie, Imagine That, takes it to the next level. My guess is it won’t.
