The original Death Race 2000 was a comedy. Granted it was dark and very sick with drivers including Sly Stallone racing from A to B performing hit and run’s to gain points. The remake is set in a prison and has almost the same with drivers going around a track in the prison for a television audience. The big bit missing is how you don’t gain points from running over innocents in the way of the race. Perhaps it was considered too dark for a modern popcorn flick but having Jason Statham in this movie is a huge bonus. Plus you have Lovejoy also in it.
The trailer has now been released for this remake and while it shows just how much it’s not like the original movie it does look to be a great driving action movie with a lot of eye candy. For those who want to see the trailer in HD it’s also available in that quality and should be recommended to be viewed in HD as both the cars and the candy need a great quality image. There is even a Training Day quote as the last line in the trailer so be sure to keep an ear out for it!
What does this mean for you? From the trailer, although trailers can be wrong, a really good action movie and a great trailer to watch. Just hope it’s a 2 hour movie and not an 80 minute Mad Max meets Fast and Furious flick.
