The Wachowskis’ next: Ninja Assassin

Rain

The Wachowskis faced a bit of criticism for their sub-average Speed Racer. This was pretty disappointing from the guys behind V for Vendetta and of course, the The Matrix series. It looks like the Wachowskis are willing to strike back, and they’re doing it with a movie that should in all respects, be as awesome as its title hints: Ninja Assassin.

Oh yeah. Hit the jump (except all you pirate-lovers).

James McTeigue has been signed on as director for the movie (he previously worked with them on V for Vendetta). Rain, a Korean pop star (hint: he played Taejo Togokahn in Speed Racer) will be the lead here, as he will play Raizo, a top-level Ninja. After the death of one of his friends from the utterly mysterious Ozunu clan, Raizo swears revenge. Sounds a bit like Kill Bill, but ready for more of it anyday.

All in all, there’s reason to be excited here. Speed Racer may not have worked, but with Ninja Assassin, the Wachowskis are back to their home turf: action. And with their awesome cinematographical abilities and raw awesome cinema techniques, this might just be the next best thing after Kill Bill, perhaps the best action we’ve seen since 300!

Lets hope it all turns out well, then!
