Interplay returns; brings Fallout MMO

Interplay Logo

Anybody who has lived and played video games before 2000 will have heard of Interplay, and with good reason – they were the makers of some of some of the most awesome games in video game history, with Fallout, the Descent games, the MDK games and many more cool titles.

However, encountering financial troubles, Interplay crashed into an unknown abyss, never to be seen again. Last December, Interplay announces their return – which they will finance from the money they got by selling the Fallout IP to Bethesda.

Interplay has released details now, and their plans appear ambitious enough to have them at the forefront of the industry again! Interplay will be working on a Fallout MMO (that’s right), sequels to Descent, Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance and MDK!

For a bit more, hit the jump!

Herve Caen, CEO of Interplay was quoted as saying:

“2007 set the foundation for our growth strategy. Going forward, we have the vision, unique intellectual property, and low debt and operational costs to help us pursue financing for our various projects.

“Our new Website will streamline our ability to communicate development progress with the public, share brand information with the fans and support our customers.”

Interplay definitely knows how money (or rather, lack thereof) can ruin your day – Interplay, after its acquisition in Titus in 2002 went down. In 2004, Interplay was evicted for not paying their rent, and was decimated by the Californian government for not paying workers. Bad.

Regardless, Interplay may not be what it was before Titus took over, but we wish it the best of luck and most importantly, to make really kick-arse games.

Fallout 3 and a Fallout MMO? This is madness!

  1. This is madness! THIS IS SPARTA!!!

    Sorry, just had do…

Great news though! I also hope they will get back on the game market, as I remember seing their logo in many of my favourite games.

  2. This is good news! I hope they succeed and will definitely buy a fallout RPG game if they release it, and any other follow up of Black Isles RPG creations, but specially Fallout RPG those games were awesome and they still are. I would definetly buy the Van Buren finished game even if the graphic look as outdated as the tech demo, in RPG graphis are not the most important aspect.

  3. EXACTLY 2 YEARS FULFILLED AND THIS IS THE LAST DAY (at my local time) FOR INTERPLAY FOR SECURING $30M TO KEEP THEIR IP LICENCE FOR A MMO FALLOUT GAME, AND RIGHT NOW I AM READING THIS PAGE AGAIN JUST INCIDENTALLY TODAY AND RIGHT NOW, I AM JUST SHOCKED THAT THIS IS THEIR LAST DAY FOR SECURING $30M TO KEEP THEIR IP LICENCE. IF I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD BORROW THEM RIGHT NOW TO SEE A MMO FALLOUT BEFORE MY DEATH. OR I PREFER A DESTROYED WORLD JUST LIKE IN THE STORY IN THE GAME.

    war never changes…

my biggest dream is to explode a BIG enough nuclear bomb so that NOONE ON EARTH survives. just like this game, just like black metal band MayheM songs and especially the track titled “View From Nihil part 2 of 2”.

Everyone deserves to be killed. Even myself.

  4. interplay’s growth strategy?…

their strategy to me seems to be to feed off of the success of a GOOD game company… Bethesda.

they basically tricked Bethesda into buying a “coin on a string”.

from what i’ve been hearing, interplay are counter suing Bethesda about something since the whole MMO ordeal, and now apparently Bethesda will soon forfiet the rights to everything Fallout related after releasing two more titles.

now isn’t that cute? interplay, a company with a notorious history of bad financials, and firing the original makers of Fallout mind you. they get back up on their feet by basically “renting” the “IP” that is Fallout to Bethesda, then pull some oj simpson/johnny cockeren legal magic, and screwing them over royally.

this is chewbacca, he is a wookie, but he lives with ewoks, now that just doesn’t make any sense, why would a wookie live with ewoks? it just doesn’t make any sense, and thats why interplay gets full ownership to a game that they SOLD for 5.75 million dollars, because chewbacca lives with ewoks on endor.
