Heroes in a halfshell back for more?

TMNT

Big news for those of us that love us some anthropomorphic kung-fu amphibians! The 5th Turtle is reporting that the chances of a a sequel to last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit TMNT have improved significantly. Based on the success of that film worldwide, I’m wondering why they aren’t already working on it. Here’s the post in it’s entirety (it’s such a coy little blurb!)

As of two weeks ago Imagi Entertainment (the TMNT movie animation studio) informed Mirage Studios that there was a 50-50 chance of a CGI film sequel. Last week they upped the odds to 70-30 in favor of a sequel, as talks between Imagi and their distribution partners Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Group seem to be heading in a positive direction…”

Watchout now!

  1. Maybe if this 4th movie was actually good, more people would have seen it. Bottom line is that it was too dark and not nearly funny enough to have a mass appeal like the 1st film did. Not to mention that it was CGI…. 😥

  2. Oh, brother. Actually good? Well, a lot of fans seemed to think it was good enough to go spend their money on tickets (especially for how low-budget and moderately plugged it was). In fact, the audience reaction when I went was overwhelmingly positive among young and old fans alike; plenty of laughs. Turtles co-creator Peter Laird even blessed it w/ his co-writing talent.
You see, writer/director Kevin Munroe was abundantly clear that his goal was not to copycat the old or new cartoons or movies or comics, but rather take a little from each to keep the characters respectfully intact, while bringing them into this decade and developing them in a direction never taken before. I saw this posted time and time again, and also relayed to a roomful of fellow Turtles fanboys/girls when we watched the trailer premiere @ SDCC last year (by the way, again a unanimously excited fan reaction). I’ve seen that the majority of posts complaining about disappointment, seem to have something in common: people were looking too hard to see the version that they’d previously been enamored with. OK, I despise anime (can’t stand the new cartoon) and am not a CGI buff… but I knew what to expect going into the theatre, and was still pleasantly surprised.

  3. Maybe fanboys/girls liked it, but there’s a reason why this film wasn’t able to gain traction with audiences of all ages, unlike the first two films. Overall the story was weak. They didn’t nail down New York City as a character in the film. Splinter’s voice was unbearable to listen to. Mikey was came off more as a dush than funny.

Watching the old first two films I can still laugh. I saw TMNT twice and the second time I just fell asleep.

The Ninja Turtles series should never be serious in story unless there’s great comedy to go with it. I mean seriously 4 ninja turtles is a little ridiculous in the first place.
